Introduction

People in India increasingly want affordable and environmentally cleaner vehicles. The high maintenance costs that come with standard gas vehicles are also becoming a serious issue. In the EV sphere, electric bicycles, or e-bikes, are also becoming popular.

E-bikes generally fall into two categories: throttle-powered e-bikes, and bikes with a small EV battery that helps the rider pedal, or pedelecs. Throttle-powered e-bikes are more akin to mopeds, but still require the rider to pedal and don’t have the power of a fully powered two-wheeler.

What to Consider

Before you buy your first e-bike bicycle, it is good to think about different aspects like price, battery life, and motor power. This article will take you through Avon's catalog of e-bikes. Avon has three models of e-bikes called Cyclelec Connect with varying features based on the model. Besides aspects like price, the battery, and other components, you should also consider things like the terrain you will ride on the most, as well as what distances you might travel with the bike.
Features of an E-Bicycle

E-bikes come with four features that differentiate them from traditional bicycles. The features are all connected to the bike’s electric components.

Motor
The bike’s motor will help the rider propel the bike forward. There are three main types of motors.

Mid-Drive Motor
This motor helps climb steep trails and reach high speeds on flat roads.

Front Hub Motor
This assists the bike in handling off-road terrains better.

Rear Hub Motor
This motor gives the rider more traction on the rear wheel. All-in-one-wheel motors house the battery, motor, and controller in the rear wheel's hub.

Pedal Assistance
The pedal assist activates to help the rider start pedaling and cuts off at a certain speed. There are two main types of pedal assists.

Torque Sense Pedal Assist
This pedal-assist senses the amount of force being put on the pedal. The more force is exerted, the more the pedal assist kicks in.

Cadence Sensor Pedal Assist
This assist provides pedal power regardless of how slow or fast the rider is pedaling. It provides the same power based on the rider’s chosen settings.

Weight
E-bikes weigh around 20-35 kg. This is more weight than a standard bike. The battery, motor, and controllers account for the additional weight.

Battery Range
EV bikes commonly have a mileage of 25-50 km per charge. It can take around 4-7 hours to fully charge, based on the battery. An Avon cycle has a mileage of 25 km per charge and takes 4 hours to fully charge.
